The Centre was founded in 1994 by the renowned Buddhist meditation master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. We hold regular classes and courses in Manchester and near locations, where anyone can learn or deepen their meditation practice.

A GROWING COMMUNITY
KMC Manchester

Est. 1992 with the following words from our founder:

“Dear Students of Manchester Mahayana Buddhist Centre:

Thank you very much for your letter. I am glad to hear that your centre is growing well and I think it is a good idea for you to establish the Centre as an independent centre within the New Kadampa Tradition.

I think that the Centre can be called: Vairochana Buddhist Centre.

With much love and many prayers.”

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

“Consideration for others is important for everyone. If we are considerate, others will like and respect us, and our relationships with our family and friends will be harmonious and long lasting.”

Volunteering in Manchester

Volunteering is an ideal opportunity to enjoy a rewarding break where you can quickly feel part of our thriving community.

Volunteering at KMC Manchester offers a perfect opportunity to experience first hand the Buddhist way of life within a vibrant, international community. There are many ways in which you can help eg. by joining in the day to day activities of the Centre itself, such as serving in the cafe, cooking, gardening, or joining a renovation project.

As a volunteering visitor you are welcome to take part in many of the spiritual activities at the meditation centre. At present we have weekly 30 minute meditations as well as evening classes and courses over the weekend.

You can volunteer for just a few hours a week or a day, for just a specific job or as a residential visiting volunteer for a few weeks.
