Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist tradition founded by the great Indian teacher Atisha (982-1054). “Ka” refers to the teachings of the Buddha, and “dam” refers to Atisha’s special Lamrim teachings, also known as “The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment.” Kadampas learn to use the Buddha’s practical methods to transform all daily activities into the spiritual path.
The Kadampa tradition was later spread far and wide in Tibet by Je Tsongkhapa and his followers, also known as “New Kadampas.” After Je Tsongkhapa, the New Kadampa has flourished for hundreds of years until today. In recent years, it has been spread far and wide by the contemporary Buddhist teacher Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche who founded the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU).
The NKT-IKBU is a union of over 1200 Buddhist centres and groups that follow the previous Kadampa Buddhist masters and strive to preserve Kadampa Buddhism for future generations.
Modern Buddhism is perfectly suited for inspiring those seeking solutions within Buddhism to problems of everyday life, as well as for encouraging practitioners of all faiths to deepen their understanding and practice of the spiritual path.
This book reveals how to build a foundation for the spiritual path, how to progress on that path and how to complete it. With compassion and wisdom we can solve all our daily problems and accomplish the real meaning of our human life; like two wings of a bird they will enable us to reach enlightenment quickly.
